New training required for faculty search committee members

By Office of Academic Affairs

May 09, 2023

In alignment with IUPUI’s strategic priorities and campus values for diversity, equity and inclusion, anyone who serves on a faculty search committee must undergo search and screen training through the Office of Academic Affairs, beginning in August.

The two-hour workshops, which review research-based practices to ensure equity and inclusion across every stage in the search process, are designed to help faculty generate diverse candidate pools and run effective searches by:

  • Strategically planning and initiating active and dynamic faculty searches.
  • Developing well-defined criteria and evaluation processes to mitigate biases.
  • Assessing candidate experience and expertise through a DEI lens.
  • Generating the short list and interview questions that center DEI.

Formal assessment of candidates may only occur upon completion of the training, which is valid for two years and must be renewed. Deans and associate deans are encouraged to participate.

Registration is open for training sessions.

Teresa Sosa, director of equity education in the Office of Academic Affairs, will conduct the workshops. For more information, contact her at tsosa@iupui.edu.

IU School of Medicine faculty are encouraged to attend school sponsored training sessions in lieu of campus sessions.
