IU Bloomington commencement times to change in 2024
In an effort to provide opportunities earlier in the day for taking just one more photo at the Sample Gates, attending a school celebration and visiting with friends and loved ones, Indiana University officials have shifted the times for both the undergraduate and graduate Commencement ceremonies for May 2024.
The graduate ceremony will be at 3 p.m. May 3 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, and the undergraduate ceremony will be at 7 p.m. May 4 at Memorial Stadium.
“Moving our large, well-attended undergraduate ceremony later into the evening provides more opportunity for our school recognition events to happen before the commencement ceremony, when it’s more convenient for our graduates and their families who might be traveling from out of town or out of state,” IU President Pamela Whitten said. “Commencement is always a highlight of the academic year for me, when we get to celebrate all our hard-working, high-achieving students on such an important day in their lives.”
The ceremony itself, which will still include an abundance of decorated mortarboards and the unmistakable strains of “Pomp and Circumstance,” will be infused with a new excitement through the celebration of the remarkable achievements of the university’s students.
And graduates will still link arms to join together to sing the university’s official alma mater, “Hail to Old IU,” as they turn their tassels and become alumni.
